Agora Society, Swansea

The name of the society was derived from the Greek word "Agora" which describes a gathering place or assembly that was the centre of artistic, political, athletic and spiritual life in ancient Greek city states. In the same spirit, the Swansea Agora society provides an independent forum for member to organise talks, lectures and discussion on a variety of topics - art, science and the humanities - although we have been obliged to omit the athletics!

The Agora Society was formed by a group of like-minded individuals in Swansea about twenty years ago. Some of the original founder members still attend, and many new members have joined us over time. The Society provides an informal structure for a free interchange of ideas and the members organise it themselves. Since its inception, the Swansea Agora Society has met in several venues and enjoyed a wide range of subjects from a variety of speakers.

All are welcome to come along, share ideas, and join in discussion in a friendly atmosphere. If you enjoy interesting conversation in congenial company, do come along and join us. The Society at present meets in the Swansea Scout and Guide Headquarters in Bryn Road. Please refer to the Location section for details of how to find us and fees etc.
